Jan, thanks for sharing this amazing place. I co-led a trip to Chaco in 2010, where we viewed the petroglyphs/pictographs you featured this week and last. It turns out that I didn't miss the Halley Comet pictograph, though I may not have known that it had that interpretation. I have unenhanced photos of it--apparent can't share them here. I never cease to wonder about the incredible ability and intelligence of those people a thousand years ago.
I have used the term pictograph incorrectly a time or two, so I was happy to read your explanation of the difference between pictograph and petroglyph. The images are wonderful and are proof that the need to record, inform, marvel at the sky and all the marvelous things that go on above our heads is a timeless pursuit.
Thank you Jan! I love these petroglyphs and pictographs you’ve posted recently on Substack. It gives me a glimpses into places of the Southwest we’ve not seen! 🧡🤗🌵

The pictograph photos are amazing!
Really enjoyed this read! I lived in Flagstaff for two years and can’t believe I never visited any of those places!
Writing done timely. Too bad in larger cities light pollution obscures the view. But we can see the moon’s reflected light.

Very enjoyable reading too!
Thank you for this series! I would love to find a tour guide to see some of this in person.
